Nothing is implied, everything is overt (and often in slo-mo, so you don't miss it).

And yet, the biggest criticism I've seen of the movie from NON-fans - including any number of art-snob film critics who PREFER their films to be as obscure as possible - is that the film is too SUBTLE, which makes me think, as much as I might wish it were otherwise, that Snyder actually did the right thing in this regard.

Granted, I've not seen it myself yet, but seriously, EVERY review I've seen, from people who didn't read the book, included at least one line about "it's not EXPLICIT enough in what it says."
