Iron Man, a geek's perspective

Since I basically knew the plot, I focused more on the little details. What impressed me the most was the sound design on the picture. Things like generators whirring, or bullets bouncing off of various surfaces seemed much more thought out than most films of the type.
Storywise, there was only one real glitch that I could see (namely, how the heck did they just happen to find him in the middle of the desert, after three months?) A minor quibble, but one that could have been covered by a throwaway line.
The humor level was not nearly as campy as it could have been. Paltrow got the best line of the movie, when she lists the job she sometimes does for her boss some mornings (devil).
The fights worked well, with an unexpected set piece with the Mk 3 early on, and while Stark does end up showing his face, it's for a much more logical reason than you might expect (and a moot point for the bad guy, who already knew who he was).
The last line... changes things. A bold move, which saves a lot of trouble.
Other things I noticed, in random order:
* "Next time, baby"
* SHIELD (with a new acronym expansion) playing a larger role than rumors suggested, with a nicely dry delivery when the door gadget came out.
* Despite serious foreshadowing, they didn't go the obvious route with Paltrow's character.
* "Dummy" saving the day was a nice touch.
* Spec fodder: Stane had a prominent ring, too...
All in all, a fun movie, without too many cliches. Thumbs up.
One more thing... I WANT THAT HOUSE. Or at least that computer. :)
