So, I took my sister to see GI JOE today. And as usual, some thoughts:
All in all, a decent popcorn flick.
"For he's a jolly good fellow..."
- "In the not too-distant future." Next Sunday, AD?
- Neither Wayans nor Gordon-Levitt were problems, really. Ripcord was a character with a sense of humor, not a humorous character. And the Doctor brought back no memories of "3rd Rock From the Son"
- Oddly, though, the Commander's voice reminded me more of cartoon Destro. Probably for the best, since few can do a good Chris Latta.
- The suits... a big part of the advertising, a very small part of the movie. And oddly ineffective. If it were up to me, I'd stic them in a closet for the inevitable sequel.
- Snake Eyes rocked. Even as a child. While his origin is different (and reminiscent of Richard Dragon's) it works for the movie.
- Nice Brendan Fraser cameo. I guess Alex O'Connell's daughter married a guy named Stone.
- If I had one negative, it would be that the movie was 50% Duke/Ana, 30% Ripcord/Scarlett, 10% Snake Eyes, and 10% everyone else.
All in all, a decent popcorn flick.
