Indiana Jones and the Suspension of Disbelief

As an early Father's Day gift, I took my dad to see Indy 4 today. I had to say it was a mixed bag, with some odd pacing (it seemed to take forever to get to the action) and Ford is curiously passive in spots, but my real problem was some truly WTF moments:

  • Gunpowder is not magnetic. It doesnt have _any_ metal in it.
  • 13 alien skeletons sitting in a circle means they had a hive mind? Major leap in logic, Natasha.
  • If you needed a skull to open the temple/ship... how'd the conquistador get the skull out in the first place? Did the aliens leave the door unlocked?
  • Instant Tarzan... just add monkeys.
  • Gophers. By God.
  • Did Ilsa, She-Devil of the KGB have ANY psychic powers, or was she just nuts?
  • The inconsistent magic magnetism (It attracts gunpowder and gold, repels ants, but can't penetrate burlap!) is a rant all it's own...
  • Could they foreshadow "Mutt is the next Indy" any heavier?

I won't say it was a bad movie, but I wouldn't consider it a great one. Maybe even number Indy films have the same problem as odd-numbered Trek ones....

LOL! good one! I have to agree with everything you've said. Perhaps I should get enough field dampening burlap to wrap my house for hurricane season...

You could put it right next to the refrigerator with airbags....
